Five women have been killed as a boat capsized in Borobilar marsh in Fulbaria of the district.
The deceased were identified as Sumitra Sangma, 12, Rina, 18, Sajeda, 25, Rowshan Ara, 24, and Sahera Khatun, 28.
Witnesses said the boat capsized in the marsh due to passenger overload around 1:30pm. Twenty among the 30 passengers of the boat managed to swim ashore.
Later, locals recovered the bodies of the five women.
Fulbaria police station Officer-in-Charge Anwar Hossain Bhuiyan confirmed the Dhaka Tribune about the deaths.
The women were returning to their home at Hatilet after collecting VGF rice from Babubazar, said the OC.
