BTRC asked to raise international call revenue

The telecom regulatory body has been asked to ensure accountability and transparency in the operation of international gateway (IGW) operators for boosting revenue from international call.

It also suggested necessary measures to suspended IGW operators on equal and similar policy.

The parliamentary Standing Committee on Post, Telecommunication and Information Technology Ministry asked Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) also to conduct audit of incoming and outgoing international calls, service audit, air- time audit and SIM Box to avert illegal call termination.

The committee came up with the recommendations at its 5th meeting held at Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban with its chairman Imran Ahmad in the chair.

Post, Telecommunication and Information Technology Minister Abdul latif Siddique, Sharif Ahmed, Sheikh Afil Uddin and Hosne Ara Lutfa Dalia attended the meeting. Post and Telecommunication Division Secretary M Foyzur Rahman Chowdhury and officials concerned were present in the meeting.

During the meeting, activities of the international gateway (IGW) operators and measures taken by Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) to stop illegal VoIP (Voice-over Internet Protocol) were discussed. The meeting discussed elaborately the activities of IGW operators and BTRC’s measures to stop illegal use of VoIP.
