PM leaves London for home

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has left London for home on Wednesday night, after winding up her three-day official visit to the United Kingdom to attend the first-ever Girl Summit.

A VVIP flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines carrying Sheikh Hasina and members of her entourage left Heathrow International Airport in London at 11pm(Bangladesh time).

Bangladesh High Commissioner to the UK Mijarul Quayes, UK High Commissioner in Dhaka Robert Gibson and DFID Director on International Affairs Anthony Smith saw the Premier off at the airport.

The flight is expected to reach Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 9.30 am.

The premier visited the UK at the invitation of her British counterpart David Cameron and UNICEF Executive Director Anthony Lake.

The Prime Minister led a 20-member high-powered Bangladesh delegation at the Girl Summit, 2014 held in the British capital on Tuesday.

This was Sheikh Hasina's first visit to any European country after the January 5 elections in Bangladesh.

The Prime Minister attended the high-level session of the summit and interacted with First Lady of Burkina Faso, Chantal Compaore, and Pakistan's famous education activist Malala Yousafzai at Walworth Academy. The session was moderated by UNICEF Executive Director Anthony Lake.

The UK government and the UNICEF jointly hosted the first-ever Girl Summit aimed at mobilising domestic and international efforts to end Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and Child, Early and Forced Marriage (CEFM) within a generation.
