Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury has condemned the US for backing Israel's military actions in the Gaza Strip.
The minister also criticised the UN's late reaction to the military actions, saying many people had died in Gaza in the past few days, and the UN held only a meeting at the Security Council.
“The UN is safe, the people of Gaza are not,” she said.
Addressing a distribution programme of VGF rice, elderly allowance and clothes among the poor people at Sherpur's Nalitabari municipality office, the minister said the government strongly condemned the US's support in such a heinous act.
Matia Chowdhury was accompanied by, among others, Sherpur Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Zakir Hossain and Police Super Mehedul Karim.
A total of 6,000 poor people of the upazila were given 10kg of rice each. 1,250 women were given saris, 1,195 men were given shirts and trousers, 230 people were given elderly allowance and 105 widows were given their allowances.
