Update : 23 Jul 2014, 10:13 AM

A Dhaka court has placed Mirpur police station Sub-Inspector Zahidur Rahman Zahid and police source Shomon on a four-day fresh remand for their alleged involvement with the custodial death of garment-waste trader.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mizanur Rahman has passed the order when the Investigation Officer of the case DB Inspector Nibaron Chonro Bormon produced them before the court with a 10-day remand plea on Wednesday afternoon.

On Sunday, ten people including the officer-in-charge of Mirpur police station were sued in connection with the death of a garment leftover (jute) trader in police custody.

On July 17, SI Zahid and Shomon were placed on a five-day remand.

A team of police led by SI Zahidur Rahman picked up businesswomen Mahbubur Rahman Sujan and his wife Mamataj Sultana Luchi along with their five-year-old son Mosharraf from their residence in the capital’s Shankar area late at night on July 12 and tortured Sujon to death in the early hours of July 13.
