PM reaches London

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has reached London to attend the first ever Girls Summit 2014.

A VVIP flight of Bangladesh Biman carrying the prime minister and members of her entourage landed at Heathrow Airport around 8:30pm(Bangladesh time).

Sheikh Hasina's entourage includes her sister Sheikh Rehana, Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali, State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Meher Afroz Chumki, officials of Prime Minister's Office and the foreign ministry.

Bangladesh High Commissioner to the UK Mijarul Quayes, local Awami League leaders and activits and representatives from the British government received the Bangladesh premier at the airport.

After the warm welcome at the airport, the PM has been taken to London Hilton Hotel through a ceremonial motorcade where she will be staying during her visit.

This is Sheikh Hasina's first visit to any European country after the January 5 elections in Bangladesh.

Earlier, she left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 9:45am for London at the invitation of her British counterpart David Cameron and UNICEF Executive Director Anthony Lake.

The UK government and the UNICEF are jointly hosting the first-ever Girl Summit aimed at mobilising domestic and international efforts to end Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and Child, Early and Forced Marriage (CEFM) within a generation.
