Ferry services have been hampered in the Mawa-Kaorakandi water ways for gigantic wave in the Padma River on Monday.
Under the circumstances, there is a long tailback of 600 vehicles at the terminal, Sirajul Haq, manager (trade) at BIWTA office at Mawa told the Dhaka Tribune.
He said: “Gigantic waves have been hampering the ferry services in the Padma River. Huge waves are being created at times in the river. Moreover, rain has started pouring.”
So, three ferry services have halted. However, 14 ferries are working well,” he said.
Seven dump ferries had been halted since 1.15pm and three other ferries since 8pm on Sunday, he added.
However, dump ferry services resumed at 9am on Monday. Yet medium ferries of Faridpur and Dhaka and small ferries of Karnafuli could not resume servicing.
If this situation continues till Eid-ul-Fitr, passengers will have to suffer a lot, Sirajul added.
