One alleged dacoit has been killed in a gunfight with police at north Rajapur village under Sharankhala upazila in the district on Sunday morning.
The deceased was identified as Namir Thalukder, second in command of Balal Bahini of the area, Sharankhala police station Officer-in-Charge Kazi Abu Salek said, reports BSS.
The OC said a police team conducted an arms recovery drive at the area. Sensing the presence of police, members of Belal Bahini started firing on them that triggered a gunfight.
At one stage, one Namir received bullet and died on the spot while other dacoits managed to flee from the scene, he added.
After the incident, police recovered a firearm and four rounds of bullets from the spot, the OC also said.
