Update : 19 Jul 2014, 09:14 PM

Police detained two people from Chittagong’s Bayezid Bostami area early yesterday with possession of 66 phoney Tk1,000 notes.

The detained are Mohammad Harun, 25, of Bhola, and Mohammad Jalal, 26, from Barisal, said police sources.

Babul Chandra Banik, officer-in-charge of Bayezid police station, said they nabbed the duo, and seized the forged notes, around 12:30am while the two were attempting to make a transaction.

A case was lodged with Bayezid police station in this connection, he said.

According to police sources, circulation of counterfeit notes of different denominations has gone up in Chittagong as miscreants are deceiving shoppers who are gearing up for Eid-ul-Fitr.

On July 13, Halishahar police held two people, Masud and Morshed, in Anondipur area of the district with 332 fake Tk500 notes.
