Bangladesh Railway (BR) East Zone has taken a number of measures for providing better services to home-bound passengers ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, said officials.
The BR (east) authorities this year will attach an additional 91 compartments to the regular trains from the port city while special trains will also be introduced for people intending to join the Sholakiah Eid congregation, the biggest in the country.
However, there will be no special train on Dhaka-Chittagong route, said General Manager of BR (east) Mojammel Hoque in a briefing after visiting Chittagong Railway Station yesterday.
This year, there will be three patrol teams and more CCTV cameras in the stations to reduce ticket scalping, he said.
“Besides, the law enforcement agencies will be on alert to ensure law and order. They will also keep an eye on travel hassles,” added Mojammel.
Sale of advance train tickets for holidaymakers began today.
Deputy Commercial Officer of BR (east) Mizanul Islam told Dhaka Tribune law enforcers would monitor sale of tickets to check for anomalies and ensure passenger services.
