Dhaka recalls Lebanon envoy

The Foreign Ministry has recalled Bangladesh Ambassador to Lebanon AFM Gousa Azam Sarker.

Azam has been asked to hand over charge by today and instructed to return to the headquarters by July 27, according to a foreign ministry order issued on July 17.

In the same order, the headquarters dispatched foreign ministry director general Nazrul Islam to take over from him, said a senior official of the ministry.

Azam is the fourth ambassador, who were recalled in the recent years.

Earlier, Mujibur Rahman Bhuiyan from Japan, Mazeda Rafiqunnesa from the Philippines and Hasib Aziz from Uzbekistan were recalled for misconduct, misuse of power and corruption charges.

Azam was posted to Lebanon last September and prior to that, he was the ambassador to Sweden.

A career diplomat, Azam joined the foreign service in 1989 and posted in Hong Kong as Consul General in his diplomatic careers.
