The State University of Bangladesh (SUB) has organised the Fourth Harvard Journal Day seminar focusing on ‘Blue Ocean Leadership’, ‘Gap Between Knowing & Doing’, ‘Purpose Driven Leadership’ and ‘Creating a Culture of Quality.’

The seminar has been organised by the President of Board of Trustees of the SUB Dr A M Shamim on Sunday.

The seminar was part of a series of seminars on ‘Harvard Journal Day’ that aims to improve leadership quality.

Vice-Chancellor of the SUB Professor Dr I G Chowdhury, Advisor to the Business Studies Professor Dr Nurur Rahman, Head of the Business Studies Professor Ali Ahsan and Dean of the Business Studies Professor Dr M Asharaful Islam Chowdhury discussed the topics accordingly.

Whilst talking to the audiences, the speakers presented different theories on leadership dynamics to achieve in professional life.

During the discussion on ‘Blue Ocean Leadership,' Professor I G Chowdhury said the concept of Blue Ocean Strategy was introduced in 2005 by two INSEAD professors that have drawn much acclaim and attention.

“The Blue Ocean Leadership is a concept to add value to products to capture the market with a new profit dimension.”

Professor Dr Nurur Rahman said the gap between knowing & doing was a dilemma which we encounter in our personal, professional, and organisational life.

“If-then-planning is an approach suggested by some management experts to overcome this dilemma. This approach is similar to contingency planning that is being used in business, particularly in marketing.”

Professor Ali Ahsan said leaders were the stewards of organisational energy.

“They recruit, direct, channel, renew, focus and invest energy from all the individual contributors in the service of the corporate mission. The energy of each individual contributor in the corporation must be actively recruited.”

Professor Dr M Ashraful Islam Chowdhury said: “Creating a culture of quality is a key component of the management to offer in which employees not only follow quality guidelines but also consistently see others taking quality-focused actions; hear others talking about quality, and feel quality all around.”
