A member of the United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF) was killed in a gunfight with Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity (PCJSS) yesterday at Laxmichhari upazila in the district.
Two PCJSS members were also injured during the gunfight at Tintohari jungle around 8:30am, said Assistant Superintendent of Police (Ramgorh circle) Mohammad Shahjahan.
He said the fight continued until around 9:00am, when UPDF member Paresh Tanchangya, 28, of the upazila’s Bajjapara died on the spot.
PCJSS members Shanto Chakma, 19, and Ananda Chakma, 26, of Rainnachhara received critical injuries and were sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
ASP Shahjahan said no case had been filed with them, nor had they arrested anybody in this connection until the filing of this report.
PCJSS Laxmichhari upazila unit president Jyotish Dewan blamed UPDF men for the attack and the injuries inflicted on two members of his party.
UPDF Press Secretary Niron Chakma refused to make any comments in this regard.
