Teachers of Dhaka University yesterday made a human chain in front of the Aparajeyea Bangla protesting the recent Israeli air strikes in the Gaza Strip, Palestine.
Saying that Israeli forces had been killing Palestinians mercilessly and pounding the Palestine territory without legal grounds, they also alleged that the negligence of the United Nations (UN) had patronised the Israeli atrocities in Gaza to a large extent.
They, however, demanded immediate action by the global organisation to stop the massacre.
The teachers also urged Bangladesh government to send relief and doctors to help the battered people in Gaza.
The university’s former pro-vice-chancellor AFM Yousuf Haider and Teachers’ Association Vice President Dr Akhter Hossain Khan, among others, were present at the human chain.
Meanwhile in the afternoon, cultural organisation Sammilito Sangskritik Jote also brought out a separate rally for the same cause.
At the rally, the organisation’s President Nasiruddin Yusuf urged cultural activists across the world to unite and protest against such types of atrocities globally.
Later, cultural personalities brought out a black-flag procession on the campus to condemn the attack on Palestinians.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Peace Council yesterday condemned the Israeli attack on Palestinians and urged the global community and the United Nations to come forward and stop the massacre.
They made their demands while forming a human chain in front of the National Press Club.
The programme were also addressed by Workers Party President and Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon, Communist Party President Mujahidul Islam Selim, former industries minister Dilip Barua, and columnist Syed Abul Moksud.
Several political and non-political organisation are set to observe protest programmes today in Dhaka, including a programme organised by Bangladesh Facebook Activists at 2:00pm in front of National Museum.
Meanwhile in Narayanganj, leaders and activists of Bangladesh Communist Party and Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal (Basod) yesterday formed a human chain in front of the Narayanganj Press Club to condemn the Isreali attack on Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
