Bhabna as Bankim Chandra's Kapalkundala

Update : 17 Jul 2014, 06:01 PM

Newbie of the entertainment industry, Ashna Habib Bhabna is taking up one after another challenging roles to break her “girl next door” image and to prove her versatility. She is now working in the dense jungle of the Sundarbans for a single-episode TV drama titled “Kundale.” Directed by Animesh Aich, the drama is an adaptation of a segment from Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay’s classic “Kapalkundala.” The story is of Nabakumar, Kapalik and Kapalkundala, where Bhabna will play Kapalkundala’s character. Dhaka Tribune got opportunity to catch up with the actor on her recent ventures and much more.

How do you feel about portraying Kapalkundala?

Animesh Aich has done an outstanding job in adapting the character. I had a wonderful time working in the drama and enjoyed playing Kapalkundala. I had read the novel once but I never thought that I was capable of playing the role. However when the director selected me to play the role, I felt confident and motivated.

Tell us about your recent ventures.

I worked in five or six dramas which will be aired this Eid. In a drama titled “Red Carpet,” directed by Mahmud Didar, I portrayed a hearing-impaired girl and had to mime. In a telefilm titled “Protodin Shonibar,” directed by Dipankar Dipon, I played the role of a sex worker. I also worked in another drama directed by Animesh Aich titled “Thrill.” I had the opportunity to play five different characters in the telefilm titled “Kobitar Jonne,” written by Bipasha Hayat and directed by Toukir Ahmed.

What inspired you to act?

My inspiration comes from the directors I worked with, my audience and co-artists. When a director wants to cast me, it inspires me. I want to be a director’s choice not a producer’s choice.

Tell us about your Eid plans.

I finished some of my shopping when I went abroad for shooting. I will do the rest when I am free. I don’t have any special plans yet, but I enjoy visiting my family and friends and hopefully it won’t be different this time around.

Born and raised in a cultural environment, she joined dance classes at a very early age and is a very good classical dancer. She will display her dancing skills in “Bhabnar Nil Akashe” which will be aired on the third day of Eid-ul-Fitr on Banglavision.
