'Father's killers' abducted Gazipur councillor

The female councillor of Gazipur City Corporation, who went missing on Friday, has claimed that she was abducted by the accused of her father's murderers.

Parvin Akter, councillor of wards 1, 2 and 3, made the claim duirng a press conference at the Gazipur district police superintendent's office on Sunday afternoon. Gazipur district police organised the press conference.

Gazipur SP Abdul Baten said councillor Parvin Akter was abducted from in front of Rahima Afroz battery factory in South Painshail of the district on Friday.

"She was trapped by an unknown woman who called the councillor over phone showing trouble with her husband and sought her help for arbitration. That woman assoicated the kidnappers to abduct the councillor," Baten said.

The councillor suspected that they had abducted her to kill.

The husband of the councillor filed an abduction case on Friday evening accusing Dulal Hossain Khan alias Dulal Haji, 50, Sohail, 25, and Jewel, 22, Ramzan, 22, Russell, 22, Khorsed, 45, his wife Shahina, 35, Mosharraf and Awlad, 26.

Parveen Aktar told police that she could recognise Dulal, Sohail and Jewel -- the alleged killers of her father, and three others before she had fallen unconscious. She was doped by the abductors in a black microbus, according to the police super.

Baten said the abductors had left her in front of the SD Market in Auskandi area on Dhaka-Sylhet highway under Nabiganj upazila of Habiganj on Saturday night.

Her hands were tied up with rope and her mouth taped. A van driver rescued her and handed over to the police.

Nabiganj police handed her over to Gazipur district police after primary treatment.

Gazipur district police brought her on Sunday morning. Her husband Minhajul Islam recieved her after the press conference.

The councillor's father Chand Mia disappeared on June 22, 2011. His body was found in an abandoned house in Palash Housing of South Painshail area the next day.

Later Parvin Akter filed a murder case with Joydebpur police station against eight persons. Joydebpur police Sub-Inspector Rafiqul Islam submitted charge sheet to the court after investigation against four of the accused in the case. After Parvin filed a no-confidence petition, the court ordered the CID for further investigation.

Gazipur district CID Inspector and Investigating Officer Habibur Rahman said the investigation was almost done.

During the investigation, Parvin with the help of locals caught Sohail, Jewel and Ramadan, and handed them over to the CID.

Sohail and Jewel later walked out of jail on bail.
