Missing Gazipur councillor rescued from Habiganj

The female councillor of Gazipur City Corporation, who went missing on Friday morning has been rescued from Habiganj.

Mohammad Nurul Islam, the deputy commissioner of Gazipur, told the Dhaka Tribune that Habiganj police rescued Parveen Aktar around 9pm.

"She is now under the custody of Habiganj police. The councillor will be taken to Gazipur after medical checkup," said the deputy commissioner.

Nazmul Islam, assistant superintendent of police in Habiganj, said: "Locals found Parveen Aktar on the highway in Aushkandi area. They rescued her and admitted her into upazila health complex."

Witnesses said some people in a microbus left Parveen on the highway after iftar. Then the local people took her to the health complex.

Perveen Akhter, councillor from reserved seat (GCC wards 1,2 and 3), left her house at 8am on Friday for attending an arbitration.

Perveen's husband Minhajul Islam told the Dhaka Tribune that Perveen left their South Panisail house at 8am on Friday. She was scheduled to join an arbitration in Jirani Bazar area. She left her mobile phone in the house and did not tell the family members about any specific address.

On Saturday morning, a person introducing him as a local journalist in Chirirbandar of Dinajpur claimed that the missing councilor was with him.

Later, police found the information to be false, Chirirbandar police station Inspector (investigation) Sumon Das Gupta told the Dhaka Tribune.
