Hundreds of students, locals have ransacked the Palli Bidyut office in Austagram sadar upazila of Kishoreganj on Saturday morning protesting the ongoing power outage.

They have also blockaded, staged demonstrations and besieged the office demanding uninterrupted power supply.

According to locals, frequent power crisis prompted the students and local people to stage demonstrations, lay siege of office and vandalise Palli Bidyut Samity at Kastal area in Austagram upazila.

Locals said the scenario of load shedding in the rural areas is worse than earlier. In the rural areas, power crisis is so acute that people hardly get electricity even for a couple of hours a day.

Most of the day and night they have to pass without power and they cannot watch the World Cup football matches, alleged the sufferers.

Under the circumstances, several hundred students along with locals staged demonstration in front of the Palli Bidyut office about 10:30am and besieged it protesting the frequent blackouts in the upazila.

They also pelted stones towards the office protesting the frequent load shedding.

At one stage, the students of Austagram Pilot High School vandalised the complain centre of Palli Bidyut office.

Chowdhury Mizanuzzaman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Austagram police station, said on information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
