Benapole, the country’s largest land port, was busy on Friday although it was a holiday. Customs house remained open on Friday after receiving a directive from the National Board of Revenue. The directive came into effect July 11, said Mohammad Mahbub Hasan, assistant commissioner, Benapole customs.
The customs official told newsmen that the National Board of Revenue directed Benapole customs house to function on holidays to facilitate trade with India during Ramadan.
Loading and unloading at the land port operated normally yesterday.
Mofizur Rahman Sazan, president of the Benapole C&F Agents Association said the association received a letter from the customs department regarding normal operations at the land port on holidays.
