300 metres of the 1.75km China crossbar dam in Malsapara of Sirajganj collapsed due to heavy storm yesterday afternoon.
The portion collapsed on Jamuna river around 1pm. Water Development Board placed sand-laden sacks to protect the remaining portion of the dam, with little success.
Deputy Divisional Engineer of the water development board Julfiqar Tarek said the dam was constructed by China Harbour Engineering Company in 2010-11 fiscal year but no measure was taken in the last three years to protect it.
