Principal of a school was beaten by two men in Fukra village of Kashiyani upazila under Gopalganj district on Wednesday, following the school’s managing committee election.

Protesting the incident, the Secondary School Teacher’s Association of the upazila has announced to close down all schools in the upazila from August 8 after Eid.

Locals said election to chairman post of Tarail High School managing committee was held on June 5 where Mohammed Rabiul Sarder won defeating his contender Kazi Jahirul Islam.

The result of the election has been sent to Dhaka board for approval.

On Wednesday around 11am, while Principal of Tarail High School Moni Mohon Biswas was on his way to school, the defeated candidate Kazi Jahirul Islam’s younger brother Md Arafat Kazi and his friend Shohag beat him up.

Md Arafat Kazi is son of Md Ali Monsurul Gora Kazi, former chairman of Fukra Union Parishad of the upazila.

As the news spread, the teacher’s fraternity of the upazila burst into protest.

Chairman of Kashiyani Upazila Secondary School Teacher’s Association Md Joynuddin Ahmed said: “We are deeply shocked by this incident. All the schools will remain closed for unidentified period. Our movement will continue until the justice is done.”
