Transport owners issue 72-hr ultimatum

Transport owners in Chittagong have threatened to stop vehicular movement on Dhaka-Chittagong highway if the wrecked roads are not renovated within 72 hours.

Bangladesh Road Transport Owners Association President Kafil Uddin gave the ultimatum after a meeting with the superintendent of police, Chittagong on Thursday afternoon.

"Communications Minister Obaidul Quader had promised that the damaged roads on Dhaka-Chittagong highway before Eid. But local bodies did not implement the order," Kafil Uddin claimed.

He said they made announcement to ease the sufferings of passengers during Eid.

"It takes about 12 hours to reach Dhaka from Chittagong which is very embarrassing for the passengers," he said.

In the meeting, Police Super AKM Hafiz Aktar assured the association leaders that he would talk to the authority concerned about the matter and take necessary action.
