Three labourers have been killed as a sand-laden boat capsized in Surma river in Sunamganj district early Monday.
The deceased are Sayemul, 25, son of Abdus Salam of Shreepur village, Jamir Ali, 26, son of Muluk Mia and Foyez Uddin, 30, son of Abdul Kaiyum.
Locals said six workers had anchored the sand-laden boat and were taking rest on it at Surma bridge area in the early hours of the day when the boat suddenly capsized due to the large wave in river.
Though three workers managed to swim to the shore but the other three got drowned.
Sunamganj sadar police station Officer-in-Charge Jaaney Alam Khan confirmed about the deaths to the Dhaka Tribune.
The OC said: “On information, fire rangers went to the spot and recovered the bodies around 11am.”
Sunamganj Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Hemayetul Islam said: “The incident took place due to excessive rain and wave in the river.”
