Four construction workers have allegedly been abducted by unidentified miscreants from a bridge construction site in Bengamara area of Matiranga upazila.
Of the victims, two were identified as Faruq and Raju.
Quoting locals, Officer-in-Charge of Matiranga police station Mohammad Mainuddin Khan said: "A group of armed miscreants raided the under construction bridge site around 11pm on Sunday and created panic through firing shots. Later they abducted the four workers on gun points."
Police and army are jointly trying to rescue the abducted workers, he added.
Regional forum United Peoples Democratic Front (UPDF) might have been involved with the incident, the OC alleged.
When contacted, district UPDF press secretary Niron Chakma denied their involvement with the abduction.
