Three members of a family suffered severe burns as miscreants hurled acid on them while they were asleep in their house in Gopalpur village under Islami University police station in Kushtia.
The victims of the gruesome attack are Saleha, 60, and her two children Sonia, 18, and Titumir, 13, who were admitted to Kushtia General Hospital in critical condition.
Police and the family members said some unidentified culprits threw acid on the trio through a window around 10:30pm on Saturday while they were asleep and fled the scene, leaving them critically injured.
Afterwards, their neighbours, hearing their screams, rushed to the spot, and took them to the hospital.
Dr Amio Kumar, medical officer of Kushtia General Hospital, said they referred Sonia, who is a student of a local college, to Dhaka for better treatment as her burns were comparatively worse than the others.
On the other hand, police visited the spot and arrested one Nayeb Ali on suspicion of carrying out the attack.
Islami University police station OC Mir Shariful Islam said they were trying their best to track down and arrest the culprits as early as possible.
