President Abdul Hamid has stressed the need for taking steps to create awareness about cancer as the number of cancer patients has been increasing in the country.
The president made the remarks when a delegation of Bangladesh Cancer Society led by its President Prof Mollah Obayedullah Baki made a courtesy call on him at Bangabhaban.
During the meet, the delegation apprised the president of the society's activities, BSS reported.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has given the society 1.74 acre of land, they said.
They also apprised the president that the society is running a 32-bed hospital in a tin-shed building but it has a plan to build a 250-bed hospital.
Abdul Hamid urged the delegation to take steps so that big business establishments and banks come forward with help for further development of the society.
