Fakhrul: AL turned to abandoned party

The ruling Awami League has bankrupted politically and turned into an abandoned party after January 5 ‘controversial’ election, BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said.

The BNP leader made the allegation while addressing a citizen gathering at the National Press Club in the capital on Sunday.

Advanced rail tickets from July 20

Bangladesh Railway will start selling tickets for the vacation of Eid-ul-Fitr in advance from July 20, which would continue until July 24.

Railway Minister Mazibul Hoque has made the announcement in a press briefing at the ministry on Sunday afternoon.

7.6kg gold seized, 2 held at Dhaka airport

Customs Department officials, in separate incidents, have arrested two people with 7.6kgs at Hazarat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital on Sunday morning.

Assistant Commissioner of the Customs Department said they arrested one Shaheenur Alam with six gold bars weighing 6kgs immediately after his arrival at Dhaka airport on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight from Malaysia around 6am.

Fire at Islami Bank branch in Gazipur

A fire broke out at the Mawna branch of Islami Bank in Gazipur on Sunday afternoon.

Shreepur fire service operator Mazharul Islam said: “The fire broke out at the second floor of the four-storey building around 1:45pm. The fire soon spread to the other rooms of the bank.”

College girl abductors yet to be held

Police could not yet arrest the real culprits who were involved with the abduction of a college girl at Uttara in the capital on Friday.

Some 4-5 unidentified miscreants set a 19-year-old college girl free at sector 4 in the area in early hours on the day, about one hour after her abduction from the area. The miscreants shot dead a security guard and stabbed one Mahfuzul, as they came to rescue the girl.
