Human hauler drivers in Sylhet laid a siege to the residence of Sylhet City Corporation Mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury at Kumarpara in the city protesting the government move to ban plying of the vehicles (Tomtom) in the city.
Sources said a group of human hauler drivers went to the residence of SCC Mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury and besieged the house around 11:00pm.
They also chanted slogans against the mayor.
Being informed, a team of police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
However, the besiegers left the place on the assurance from the mayor to see to the matter.
Later the drivers vandalised 10/25 vehicles in different parts of the city, including Kumarpara, Ambarkhana, Chouhatta, Bandarbazar and Shahi Eidgah. They also pelted brick chips around during the vandalisation.
A truck driver was injured in the incident. Police arrested five easy-bike drivers from several parts of the city in this connection.
