Eid and Ramadan food support for nearly 4cr people

Nearly four crore of the poorest people in the country will receive food support during Ramadan and Eid ul Fitr as part of the Gratuitous Relief (GR) and Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) programs, the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief has said. 

Some 39,865,833 of the poorest people in the country will get GR and VGF help from the government during Ramadan and Eid ul Fitr.

The rice will be distributed to VGF cardholders. Each family will receive 10kgs of rice each.

The ministry has allotted a total of 398,658.33 metric tonnes of rice against the constituencies of elected parliament members, reserved women parliament members, upazila chairmen and municipal mayors.

Of the total allotment 345,329.33 metric tonnes will be given as VGF and 53,329 metric tonnes will be distributes as GR help.

The allocation of special gratuitous relief (GR) will be distributed among the most vulnerable.

Public representatives have been instructed to distribute the allotted rice in their electoral territory from stocks in local food warehouses.

Warehouse authorities were asked to release the allotted food to local representatives.

According to the ministry, the allocations were given on June 30, the last day of the previous fiscal year. The ministry has asked public representatives to distribute the allotted food grain immediately and to report to the ministry.

Representatives have started withdrawing allotted food grains from local food warehouses. It will be distributed within the next week, the ministry’s Public Relation Officer Omar Faruq Dewan said yesterday.
