5 killed in capital road accidents

At least five people were killed in different road accidents in the capital Thursday, confirmed Mojammel Haque, in-charge of the police camp in Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

Around 10:30am, a collision between an easybike and a speeding covered van badly injured three men on Mayor Mohammad Hanif overpass near Kutubkhali area in Jatrabari, eyewitnesses said.

The victims – Md Kamal Hossain, 35, from Barisal, Tarekur Rahman, from Noakhali and an expatriate in Oman, and Md Jahangir, a service holder – were taken to the DMCH by the locals around 11:30am, where the doctors on duty pronounced two of them dead. The other one died around 20 minutes later, said the DMCH authority.

In another accident, a Tongi-bound train hit Mohammad Manik, 60, in the capital's Malibagh Railgate area, said Mojammel.

He was brought to the DMCH by a passer-by named Sabuj Mia, where he died around 1:30pm, he added.

Around 9:45am, a collision between a human haulier and a staff bus of Sonali Bank Ltd near Mukda Community Centre injured Md Habib, 14, said his brother-in-law Md Helal.

Habib, a Class-VII student at Kazi Zafar High School, was going to Motijheel on the human haulier. He was taken to the DMCH, where he died around 1:30pm, Helal said.
