Five people of a family have been killed as a speedy-driven truck ran a CNG-run auto-rickshaw over on Dhaka-Sylhet Highway near Bertola area under Sarail upazila of Brahmanbaria on Tuesday afternoon.
The deceased are Mizan Mia, his wife Nilufer Begum, their sons Jobaer and Mahfuz Mia and Mahfuz's son Masud.
Khalihata Highway police outpost Sergeant Abdun Nur said: “A speedy-driven truck ran a CNG-run auto-rickshaw over around 3:15pm, leaving the five passengers of the auto-rickshaw died on the spot.”
Earlier while giving the initial information, the police informed that the auto-rickshaw driver died on the spot. Later, he has been rushed to the hospital with severe injuries.
"Four people sustained injuries in the accident. They have been admitted at the district Sadar hospital."
Police have seized the truck, but the driver managed to flee.
