One can get fake certificate of some private universities in exchange for Tk50,000 to Tk3 lakh, reveals a study of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB).
Findings of the study titled “Private University's challenge of good governance and ways to overcome” were revealed at the Brac centre in the capital on Monday afternoon.
Director of Research and Policy Mohammad Rafiqul Hassan presented the report.
The study was conducted on the basis of the information gathered from 22 selective private universities from 2012 to 2014.
According to the study, some of the private universities were involved in financial irregularities. A sector of these private universities, the University Grants Commission and Education Ministry were jointly involved in this irregularities.
Around Tk1 crore to Tk3 crore was being charged for the university approval, Tk50,000 to Tk3 lakh was being charged to provide fake certificates while Tk50,000 to Tk1 lakh was being charged for audit report, the report stated.
TIB Executive Director Iftekhar Uz-Zaman said: “Private universities were supposed to be non-profit organisations but some of the owners of these universities have the tendency of trying to make profit.”
“These financial irregularities are depriving the students of proper education and turning the universities into commercial organisations,” he said.
