Assailants have hacked an Awami League activist to death in Gopalpur village under Mirpur upazila of Kushtia district early Monday.
Deceased Mamun Gazi, 35, was an activist of Chitlia union unit of Awami League. He was the son of late Amjad Gazi of Gopalpur village.
Mirpur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shahidul Islam Shahin said: “Mamun was sleeping in his house when three to four assailants entered the house and hacked him to death around 2am.”
He said: “We are estimating that he might have been killed over previous enmity. The body has been sent to Kushtia General morgue for autopsy.”
Police have detained local Union Parishad member Jahid Ali for his suspected involvement with the killing.
