Two unidentified youths have been killed in a gunfight between a gang of criminals and the personnel of the Detective Branch of police early hours of Sunday in capital’s Motijheel.
Officials of the DB, Motijheel police station and also the Media Centre at the DMP admitted the incident, but none was agreed talking on the issue immediately.
But sources at the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) said the DB personnel sent the bullet-hit bodies of two youths to DMCH at around 3:30am.
After the doctors declared them dead, the bodies were sent to the DMCH morgue for autopsy.
Aged from 25 to 30 years old, the youths sustained several gunshots at their bodies, the morgue sources said.
Contacted, Masudur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner at the DMP Media Centre, said he was not such a state of talking on the issue immediately as he had been busy at a meeting.
Assistant Commissioner Abu Yusuf at the DMP Media Centre said he heard of the matter, but he would not be able to provide any information due to the absence of his senior officials, who had been busy at a crime conference with DMP Commissioner.
Sub-inspector Zakaria Mostofa of Motijheel police station said the youths were killed in a gunfight between their cohorts and the DB personnel at Motijheel T&T Colony area at around 3:00am.
He said the killed youths were criminals by their professions, but their identities were not known to him.
Asked, he said no case was filed in this connection as of filing of the report at 12:11pm.
“As the DB personnel were involved into the incident, they would look into the matter,” the SI said and also suggested for contacting with the DB personnel.
