Every actor secretly dreams of being a director

Rokeya Prachi has experimented in varied ranges of art forms from small screen to directorial venture. A human rights activist, the actor has made as many as twenty TV plays and three documentaries moslty based on historical events in Liberation War, Language Movements and many others. Her début directorial series drama “Shelai Poribaar” has finished filming thirteen episodes. A research-based series, drama “Shelai Poribaar” is an endeavour to depict the conditions of the garment workers from a social perspective. Writer and director Prachi has expressed her dream of a country free from poverty and oppression, bought on through social justice, equality and human rights for all. The story of “Shelai Poribaar” talks about women empowerment. A person leaves her home town and arrives at the capital for a better future. Making a life-changing decision doesn't come easy. Their co-workers become their family members. The story shares their personal experience and brings forth their emotions. Besides the rocky economic condition, the drama also portrays physical intimacy among the partners working together at the garments factory.

Rokeya said: “Based on true stories, we emphasise on women’s empowerment. Showcasing their life from dawn to dusk and how they struggle and yet manage to smile. Besides, the actors in the story have spent time with the real life characters to uphold their role in the truest manner. We tried to make this feel as realistic as possible.”

About shifting her focus from acting to directing, the versatile personality said: “Every actor has a hidden dream to be a director. I worked with such filmmakers such as Tareque Masud, Murshidul Islam and many others who left a mark in my career and influenced me to be a director. It is always my urge to work in a big canvas and I believe directorial will give me that platform.”

About making film, Prachi said: “The concept of the film is still in the development stage. I hope to work on this in the coming year. All I can say, it will be a women centric film, representative of the present status.

Prachi gained appreciation for her role in Abu Sayeed's feature film "Swapnodanay."
