An outlawed member of the extremist group New Biplobi Communist Party (NBCP) has been killed in a "gunfight" with police in Dumuria upazila of Khulna early Saturday.

The deceased is Litu Sardar, son of Rezaul Sardar of Thukra village, Dumuria police station SI Nazrul Islam told the Dhaka Tribune.

Two police constables – Eliash Hossain and Musharraf Hossain – have also been injured in the incident, he said.

The SI said: “Acting on a tip-off, police raided the residence of Litu in the early hours of Saturday. Sensing their presence, Litu and his associates opened fire at the law enforcers that triggered a “gunfight”, leaving Litu dead on the spot.”

Police recovered two firearms and six bullets from the scene.

There are a total of 13 cases including murder and extortion filed against Litu, said Dumuria police station Officer-in-Charge Mashiur Rahman.
