Julfikar Ali Manik wins Gerald Loeb Awards

Dhaka Tribune journalist Julfikar Ali Manik has won the prestigious 2014 Gerald Loeb Award in the “breaking news” category for his coverage of the Rana Plaza disaster along with Jim Yardley and Steven Greenhouse of the New York Times.

The Gerald Loeb Awards are considered to be among the highest honours in journalism that recognises the work of journalists whose contributions illuminate the world of business, finance and the economy for readers and viewers worldwide.

Steven Greenhouse, who received the award on behalf of Manik –  special correspondent at the Dhaka Tribune – and Yardley at a banquet in New York on Tuesday, dedicated the award to the victims of the Rana Plaza tragedy.

The winners of 14 competition categories were announced at the banquet, along with the presentation of a Lifetime Achievement Award to James Flanigan, former business journalist at the Los Angeles Times.
