Four killed in road accidents

At least four people, including a police official, were killed in road accidents yesterday in Tangail and Brahmanbaria districts.

According to our Tangail correspondent, three people were killed and 28 others injured when their bus plunged into a river at Pouli area in Kalihati upazila on the Dhaka-Bangabandu Bridge Highway.

Additional Superintended of Police Pankaj Chandra said the accident had taken place when the Dhaka-bound RK Paribahan bus coming from Bagra plunged into the Elengjani River after breaking through the Pouli Bridge railing when attempting to overtake another bus around 1pm. The incident left one dead and 30 injured.

The injured were taken to Tangail Medical College Hospital where two of them later died.

Post and Telecommunication minister Abdul Latif Siddiki, Superintended of Police Saleh Mohammed Tanvir and Deputy Commissioner Mahbub Hossen visited the spot.

Our Brahmanbaria correspondent said a police official had been killed in a road accident on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway in front of Ashuganj police station.

Additional Superintended of Polic Zahidul Islam said SI Nasiruddin Sahrif died when a passenger bus had run him over while he was riding his motorcycle.

The body was sent to a hospital morgue.
