At least three people have been killed and 25 others injured as a passenger bus fell into a river breaking the railing of Pauli bridge near Tangail Bangabandhu Bridge road in Kalihati upazila on Tuesday afternoon.
Of the deceased, one is identified as Alamgir, 32, son of Abdul Gaffar hailing from Pushnolakhsmi village of Gabtoli upazila in Bogra.The identity of the other passengers could not be known immediately.
Alenga highway police outpost Sergeant Kamruzzaman Raj said: “The bus of RK Paribahan fell into river with some 50 passengers breaking the railing of Pauli bridge around 1pm, leaving three people killed and 25 others injured.”
“The salvage operation is going on to rescue other passengers,” he said.
The injured have been taken to Tangail Medical College and of them five are in critical condition, he added.
After visiting the spot, Post, Telecommunication and ICT Minister Abdul Latif Siddique announced to give Tk50,000 as compensation to the family members of the deceased.
