A Dhaka court has sentenced one person to death and two others to life term imprisonment for their involvement in NTV video editor Atikul Isalm Atik murder case.
Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal 2 Judge Nuruzzaman passed the verdict in presence of the three accused on Tuesday afternoon.
The death row convict is Md Shakil Shikder. He is also fined with Tk50,000. Convicts sentenced to life term imprisonment are: Abdullah Mohammad Ibne Ali Sarker alias Nahid and Forkan. They were also fined with Tk50,000. In case of failing to pay the fine, they will have to serve one more year imprisonment.
The court also sentenced Md Khokon, who is now on the run, to three years of jail and fined him Tk5,000.
On February 13, 2009, Shakil along with the three accused killed Atik and snatched his motorbike near Moghbazar rail crossing area while he was returning home from the office.
Victim’s brother Md Abu Bakar Siddik filed a murder case with Ramna police station in this connection on February 14.
On August 9, Investigation Officer DB Inspector Abul Khayer submitted charge sheet against the accused.
