Mother, daughter found dead in Mymensingh

Update : 22 Jun 2014, 10:17 AM

The hanging bodies of a woman and her daughter have been recovered from Mirka village under Bhaluka upazila in Mymensingh early Saturday.

The deceased are Sheuly Akhtar, 35, wife of Jahangir Alam and her daughter Suchi Akhtar.

Family members claimed that Sheuly committed suicide after strangling her daughter to death.

They said there had been a long standing family feud between Sheuly and her husband Jahangir Alam due to poverty.

Sheuly went out of her house Friday night with Suchi while her six-month old boy Shuvo was sleeping.

After returning home, Jahangir did not find Sheuly and Suchi in the house and he started searching for them.

In the morning, locals found the bodies of Sheuly and Suchi hanging from a tree near the house, police said.

Bhaluka police station Officer-in-Charge Abul Kalam Azad said: “Sheuly used to be upset due to poverty. She might have killed her daughter and committed suicide to get relieved of her situation.”

Quoting locals, he said: “Sheuly was searching for work to support her family but he could not manage to get one.”

Police recovered the bodies and sent them to Mymensingh Medical College morgue for autopsy.

An unnatural death case was lodged with Bhaluka Police Station.
