The Bangladesh Railway authorities (East Zone) has halted the railway communications of Chittagong with other parts of the country due to excessive rainfall on Sunday.
The railway authorities has decided to stop Chittagong rail service from the rest of the country for the time being around 1pm as non-stop downpour washed away soil under the No 34 bridge, situated in-between Bhatiari and Kumira area under Sitakunda upazila.
Besides, the rainfall has inundated the rail tracks in many places, stranding three intercity trains on the tracks.
Tofazzal Hossain, general manager of Bangladesh Railway (East Zone), confirmed to the Dhaka Tribune about the temporary halt.
He said: “The communication will resume after repairing the tracks. A trial train will be plied on the track and after observing its movement, we will allow the regular trains to ply on the route.”
