The lowlands of Khagrachhari and Feni districts have been submerged due to excessive torrential rainfall on Sunday.
In Khagrachhari: The lowlands in the hill district have been inundated under water due to heavy rainfall in the last three days.
At least 3,000 acres of vegetable garden under nine upazilas of the district have been affected due to the flash flood.
Ranjit Chakraborty, sub-assistant agriculture officer of District Agriculture Extension Office, said: “Farmers are becoming the worst victims of the flash flood as most of the vegetable gardens of the district are situated at the bank of Chengi-Mainee and Feni rivers.”
Contacted Deputy Commissioner Md Masud Karim said he has been asked to measure the losses of farmers and send a report to the higher authority in this connection.
In Feni: Around 15 villages have been flooded as a part of the Muhuri river flood dyke collapsed at the Uttar Sripur village point of Fulgazi upazila in Feni.
Some 7,000 to 8,000 families have been stranded by the flood in these villages.
Feni Water Development Board Executive Engineer Romjaan Ali said: “The water level in Muhuri river crossed 13.2 cautionary limit since Saturday morning. Cracks have been noticed on two sides of Joypurhut also.”
“Works to mend it is being carried out in an emergency basis,” he said.
