The railway communications on Dhaka- Ishwardi route has snapped after two compartments of a mail train derailed near Raipur rail crossing in Sirajganj on Sunday morning.
The derailment occurred due to heavy rain around 9:30am, Senior Deputy-Assistant Engineer Abdul Mannan told the Dhaka Tribune.
He said: “Two bogies of the wheat-laden mail train went off the tracks snapping the rail connection. We are trying to clear the line but the salvage work cannot be continued due to heavy rain.
Besides, No rescue train can reach the spot as the slippers have been removed from the track in many places due to the downpour,” he added.
“In order to clear the line, the slippers should be replaced in the track first.”
