Bangladeshi killed in BSF firing

A Bangladeshi youth has been shot dead by the members of Indian Border Security Force (BSF) on Shamsher Nagar border in Patgram upazila in Lalmonirhat on Wednesday night.

The deceased Shimul Prodhan, 30, was the son of Mafizar Prodhan, of Khanpara area of Patgram Union.

Witnesses said BSF troops of Chongarkhata camp opened fire on a group Bangladeshi cattle traders, including Shimul, near main pillar no 861 while they were trying to bring cattle to Bangladesh from the Indian territory around 10:30pm, leaving Shimul injured.

Critically injured Shimul was taken to Patgram Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctors declared him dead.

Confirming the death, Commanding Officer of Border Guard Bangladesh Battalion-15 Lieutenant Colonel Shafiul Alam Khan said: “We already sent a protest letter to the BSF authority in this connection.”
