The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has issued two National Internet Exchange (NIX) licenses for the first time with a view to reduce the interruption in domestic internet traffic and save bandwidth.
BTRC chairman Sunil Kanti Bose has issued those licenses to Bangladesh Internet Exchange Trust and Novocom on Wednesday morning.
BTRC Director Mirza Sarwar Alam has confirmed the matter to Dhaka tribune.
The NIX license acquisition fee is Tk10,000 while the annual fee for license renewal is Tk5000.
Bangladesh consumes 60 gigabytes of bandwidth as per the IIG (international internet gateway) operators and almost 37 million people are connecting with internet service.
