120 RHD workers dropped from regularisation process

About 120 work-charged workers of Roads and Highways Department across the country have been dropped out from the regularisation list and equal number of fake workers was also included there.

Consequently, the workers, who had been working for about 30 years there, have been passing their days amid a great uncertainty of losing job.

On the other hand, the deprived-workers alleged that some collective bargaining agent (CBA) leaders did the scam in exchange of huge amount of bride from the fake workers.

There are 7,059 work and pay basis workers at RHD, to who is called charged-workers and they have long been on protests demanding regularisation of their jobs.

In this circumstance, Communications Ministry sought the names of the workers from the RHD units concerned across the country and it received 7179 names.

However, the ministry later returned back the list and directed the authorities concerned to emend it limiting number of workers at original level.

Afterwards, a vested quarter at RHD office pushed into the names of 120 fake workers excluding the real workers, who knew the irregularities on May and they urged the authorities to include their names. 

Gopalganj district Roads and Highways Department Sramik and Karmachari Union president SM Masiur Rahman, whose name was also dropped along with the four workers of the district, blamed some collective bargaining agent (CBA) leaders for the misdeed in exchange of bribe.

“Despite repeated urging, the chief engineer is not paying any heed to the allegation. I am apprehending of losing the job.” Masiur stated.

Tamij Uddin Talukder, worker of Gopalganj RHD whose name was also dropped, echoed the voice of Masiur.

He urged upon the authorities concerned to scrutinise work-charged orders of engineers to identify the anomalies. 

Contacted, Roads and Highways Department Sramik and Karmachari Union general secretary Khondaker Kamal Uddin denied the allegation, telling that the workers’ names were dropped because of having anomaly in the papers. “In this situation, some fake workers were included to the list.”

Confirming the dropout of the four workers, Gopalganj RHD Executive Engineer Samiran Rai said he was amazed in the incident.

“A vested quarter at chief engineer office could be mastermind behind the dropout. I have sent a recommendation letter to the higher authorities to re-include them into the regularisation list.

More than 100 workers were dropped out from the list like the four,” Samiran stated.

RHD chief engineer Md Mafijul Islam Raj Khan said he received complaint from the deprived workers and he has already taken necessary steps to solve the problem.

“After investigating into the forgery, departmental action will be taken against those who are involved in it,” the engineer continued.
