George Clooney heading into politics

Update : 16 Jun 2014, 08:15 PM

George Clooney is reportedly planning to run for office in a bid to become Governor of California. George is apparently planning to launch his political career after he marries British human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin, 36, in September. Sources say he has turned down several long-term film projects to free himself up for his new goal.

The actor has been approached by US president Barack Obama’s Democrat party to make a bid for office in 2018.

George, 53, has always expressed strong political interest and rallied for Obama in the 2012 election. He is a fierce human rights campaigner and was once arrested outside the Sudanese Embassy after a planned protest over Darfur.

In his 2011 film “The Ides Of March,” which he co-wrote, directed and starred in, he plays a presidential candidate running for office.

Clooney is an active campaigner on a number of issues and was a UN Messenger of Peace for six years until April. He has been outspoken about the Darfur crisis in Sudan and on conflicts in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. And he is not the first Hollywood star to make the move from film set to government.
