Bangali Chhatra Parishad threatens blockade in Khagrachhari

Leaders of Parbattya Bangali Chhatra Parishad (PBCP) in Khagrachhari have threatened the government to blockade road on Tuesday if its district unit general secretary SM Masum Rana is not released by Monday.

They announced the programme from a protest meeting held in the district town on Monday noon with PBCP district unit president Shahajal Islam in the chair.

PBCP leaders said they would announce tougher movement if the government does not fulfill their demands.

PBCP leaders alleged that they have been torturing SM Masum Rana in the name of remands aiming to destroy PBCP that is fighting for establishing rights and privileges of Bangali people in Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT).

PBCP leaders also criticised the role of the secretary of CHT affairs ministry Nabo Bikrom Kishor Tripura and said he is the kingpin, who is working to destroy PBCP, a Bangali platform.

Meanwhile, Investigating Officer (IO) and Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge Md Mizanur Rahman said police arrested SM Masum Rana from a private business centre at Narikel Bagan area in the hill town on June 12 following an extortion case filed by a constructor Zunan Chakma on June 8.

In the first information report Zunan Chakma mentioned that SM Masum Rana and some of his cohorts stopped his under construction work at upazila area in the hill town demanding Tk3 lakh as extortion on June 6.
