Eminent photojournalist and freedom fighter Jahirul Haque has died at a hospital in New Delhi on Sunday morning.
The eminent photojournalist died at the age of 71, reports BSS.
His eldest daughter Hafiza Jahir said her father breathed his last at 6:57am (BDT) at the HBS Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences in New Delhi.
He had long been suffering from jaundice (Hepatitis-B) and was undergoing treatment at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) hospital before going to Delhi on June 5.
He left behind his wife, one son, two daughters, friends and well- wishers to mourn his death.
Jahir was the personal photographer of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina visited the ailing photographer at the BSMMU hospital.
A founder of the Bangladesh Photojournalists' Association, he was elected the association's president more than once.
Hailing from Narayanganj, Haque developed his passion for photography as a student.
Hazi Jahir worked for Kolkata-based daily 'Aajkal' as its Bangladesh correspondent. He did his Masters from Dhaka University.
He started his career as a photojournalist with the daily Azad during the Pakistani regime.
The veteran journalist also served the Bangladesh Observer, Banglar Bani, Janakantha and Bangladesh Times.
He was also an office-bearer of the Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists and the National Press Club.
His body will be brought to the country in the afternoon. He will be buried at his family graveyard at Nabiganj in Narayanganj on Monday.
